The Conference of European Justice and Peace Commissions (Justice and Peace
Europe) concluded its annual International Workshop and General Assembly that took
place from 3 to 6 October 2025 in Vilnius, Lithuania. The gathering was centred around
the theme “Hope for Peace in Europe”.

The programme included meetings with members of the Lithuanian Church, civil society and
youth, as well as political representatives and security experts. The insights and impressions
collected during these encounters were summarised in a Final Declaration of the
International Workshop adopted by the delegates representing national Justice and Peace
Commissions from across Europe.

The General Assembly offered the opportunity to national Justice & Peace Commissions to
share insights into their work on matters related to social justice, peace, human rights and
the care for Creation. The Ukrainian delegate briefed the participants about the latest
developments in his war-torn country. Justice & Peace delegates also listened to reports
from invited guests, including the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, the
Council of the Bishops’ Conferences of Europe (CCEE), Caritas Europa and the
representative of Justice & Peace Europe at the Council of Europe. Moreover, the General
Assembly agreed to renew its partnership agreement with the Commission of the Bishops’
Conferences of the European Union (COMECE).

A new General Secretary

The General Assembly thanked Stefan Lunte for his dedicated service as General Secretary
of Justice & Peace Europe, who after twelve years asked to hand over this function. Marek
Mišák, member of the Slovak Justice & Peace Commission and Policy Adviser of COMECE
for EU External Relations, has been elected as his successor.
The General Assembly also re-elected Ton Broekman from Spain and Zsanett Bánlaki from
Hungary for another mandate in the Executive Committee, while Ludwig Gelot from Sweden
has been elected for his first term.
